Dr. Asia Lyons

Dr. Asia Lyons is the founder and lead consultant for Lyons Educational Consulting LLC, a consulting and coaching firm that supports schools and other non-profits through equity auditing of their programming, co-creation of culturally responsive programming and curriculum, and job-embedded coaching. 


Prior to founding Lyons Educational Consulting, Dr. Lyons worked as a K-12 educator for over 10 years.  She also served as the Equity in Schools Specialist in a Denver based non-profit, a role in which she worked with schools and non-profit partners across the Denver Metro Area to provide communities with resources to support the closing of the access gap for BIPOC youth.


In addition to her work in coaching and consulting, Dr. Lyons is an adjunct instructor in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Colorado – Denver. She obtained her doctorate in Leadership for Educational Equity, where her research focuses on the ways that racism-related stress crosses over from Black educators to their families.


Finally, Dr. Lyons is the co-host of The Exit Interview, a podcast focusing on the lived experiences of former Black educators. 

Zoe Lyons

Miss Lyons, best known as “The Intern,” has been working with LEC since its inception in 2019. She brings to the firm her experience in the arts, including slim creation, photography, chalk art, and the ability to make small messes around the office. When not interning with LEC, she enjoys her work in academia as an elementary school student.

 

 

She aspires to be a veterinarian.

Ms. Harper is a servant leader and a change agent who challenges existing structures to create systems that serve us all. She has facilitated professional development in early literacy foundational skills on both the school and district levels for many years and has served as a school-based equity leader. She is passionate about mental wellness and is a certified yoga and mindfulness-based stress reduction leader. Her broad skill set and life experiences uniquely position her to support students of color who are often poorly served by our education system. 

 

As an educational consultant, Arvian leverages her years of experience in education to provide support and guidance to administrators, non-profit organizations, and parents. Her mission is to empower all stakeholders to align their values, beliefs, and actions to the prosperity of all children. Her work is rooted in equity and centered on students flourishing academically, socially, and emotionally.

Dr. joy ross

Dr. Ross serves as the Associate Superintendent of Talent Strategy and Communications for the Lake Washington School District.  With an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Psychology from Loyola University of Chicago, Dr. Ross’ 35 years as a successful school leader expands robust opportunities rounding out a career that she describes as being “bucket filling.” 

 

Dr. Ross’ experiences include leadership roles in Immigrant and Refugee centers, high school administration and over the past eight years, focused efforts on Human Resources; noting that creating spaces where adults thrive serve as the catalyst for cultivating climates where students can show up and be celebrated for their brilliance. 

 

Dr. Ross is passionate about building the capacity of others and celebrating the value of equity, diversity, and inclusive practices in school systems and beyond. Dr. Ross loves music, wine and considers herself it be a foodie and loves to combine the love of all these things into one experience. 

Dr. Michele McBride

Dr. McBride is an educator and advocate for justice in education. She has worked in the Cherry Creek School District for 17 years, focusing on elementary education and equity. 

 

As a Black student and now a Black educator, she has witnessed many disparities and inequities in schools that have caused Black students harm and fed the school to prison pipeline. Her mission in life is to abolish white supremacy in all spaces she occupies and her vision is a world where Black people can thrive and are free to be themselves without enduring the traumas of oppression. 

 

She is a curriculum writer and developer, focusing on Blackness, student voice, justice, equity, and anti-racism. She actively collaborates with educators, parents, students, and community leaders to develop pedagogy so that students can be global citizens and advocate for themselves and others.

Rakesha Groves-Cudjoe

Ms. Groves-Cudjoe is a Michigan native and relocated to Denver, Colorado in January 2017. 

 

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a Minor in Community Health Education from Western Michigan University, along with earning a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Michigan State University.  

 

She has fifteen years of professional social work experience working with children, adults, and has spent the majority of her career working within public health as an HIV Care Specialist.  She currently works for the State of Colorado within HIV Prevention services as a Contract Monitor. 

Dr. Spencer Childress

Dr. Childress  has worked in public education for nine years including seven in his current role as a school counselor.  

 

He finished his dissertation on ethnic racial socialization in school settings in May of 2021.  

 

He is a junior research associate with the Right2Learn Dignity Lab, a team working to amend the education clause in the Colorado constitution.  He is the director and editor for the Denver Journal of Education and Community, where he has also published his work. 

 

He believes in an education that centers community, dignity, and love.

Stacey Brandon

Ms. Brandon has over 30 years of experience in the field of education serving in the capacity of school social worker, PBIS Coordinator,  Educational Equity Coordinator and Director of Inclusive Excellence.

 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development from Spelman College and a Master of Social Work from University of Denver. She also holds a K-12 Principal License.  

 

She is the mother of four grown children and grandmother of three.  Stacey is passionate about racial equity and racial healing. 

 

As a proud Black woman, Stacey is committed to honoring the humanity of all people, by acknowledging, understanding, and interrupting predictable patterns of racialized inequities and hierarchies. 

Valeria Contreras

Ms. Contreras was raised in Aurora and is a product of Aurora Public Schools. 

 

She has experience as a Middle School Language Arts teacher in Denver and as a Community Organizer in Aurora. She was the Advocacy Director for A+ Colorado where she built relationships with organizations, schools, communities, and lead coalitions. Currently, she works for Great Education Colorado as the Director of Organizing and Partnerships. 

 

She earned her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Colorado Boulder. She is a first-generation U.S. citizen and college graduate.

Alicia D. Peterkin

Ms. Peterkin has more than 20 years of leadership experience in customer service, business administration, operations management, and human resources. Her wealth of experience has taught her what works – and what doesn’t work – in relating to, leading, and effectively managing people. She brings this vast knowledge to bear in providing services to her clients, helping them create engaged workforces with a culture of professional development while minimizing turnover and recruiting costs. Currently, she is the Founder & CEO of New Methods Consulting, Inc., a full-service HR outsourcing firm.


She values giving back to the global community through volunteer service. She was the past Membership Director and most recently the Vice President of the International Virtual Assistants Association (IVAA). She is also Chairman of the Board of MySahana, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading awareness about mental health issues in the South Asian community, and a volunteer with SCORE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship.
